I love this place! Every time I go there they deliver! I brought friends and they loved it too! The people that work there are very nice! I'd recommend this place to anyone. It's the best taco spot in Riverside CA in my opinion! Can't wait to go back again and try their food.

Rico's Tacos El Primo is huge on flavor, with an excellent selection of marinated meats and chorizo. As you know, when you're traveling in Colima or Jalisco, you must order the adobada--finely chopped marinated pork with flavors of vinegar and guajillo chiles. The adobada tacos at Rico's are predictably good--a bright red dice served atop homemade tortillas with onion, cilantro, lime and generous portions of avocado for a few cents more.

While some in my party felt the adobada was dry (albeit after traveling in a delivery carton for 30 minutes), I found few problems with it. We all universally agreed, however, that Rico's chorizo is amazing. It has a smokier marinade than the adobada with a slight hint of sweetness, usually typical of al pastor. In fact, I think a splash of pineapple might truly bring out the depth of flavor in their sausage. The chorizo tacos were also unusually lean, compared to the mouth-dribbling fattiness of a less refined mince.

As a few of my regular readers are aware, I'm always searching for crispy carnitas--fried DF-style in a copper pan glistening with fat. Even when I find it, inattentive cooks (I'm thinking of you, Tacos Tumbras a Tomas) can ruin the flavor by carelessly mixing different offal cuts or overlooking the lard until it becomes muddy. I'm not sure how Rico's prepares it, but their carnitas is crispy, well-seasoned and chunky--almost like pulled pork. It could use a finer dice and can be tough in spots, but the basic idea is executed well.

There's plenty of potential here and few places in the University area that can compete. I look forward to exploring the menu further and adjusting my review accordingly. In memoriam Jonathan Gold.

Definitely the best Mexican food in Riverside, quesadillas de pollo are to die for! All the portions are big and I've tried a lot of the items on their menu, and love each one more than the last. The workers are nice and prompt, love coming here with my friends.

Best place to come for tacos. Whether it's Tuesdays for 99 cent tacos or any other day of the week, IT IS THE GO TO PLACE. Best authentic Mexican food near UCR. Great hospitality and great food? You'll get it here. It's been a tradition to come almost every Tuesday of our college years. Will miss this place when we graduate.

Bean and rice burrito is amazing! Great price, great portion... I finally found a place with reasonably priced bean, rice and cheese burrito! And it's delicious! Large portion, veggies on the side.
The salsa is really spicy. They charge $1 for using credit card so bring cash.

    New update...
Made my food wrong, came back to get it right and they wanted to know why it took so long for me to come back. Well, the cashier read my order to me, I trusted her, drove home, open the burrito because I noticed it was a bit floppy, and there was only bean and cheese in it. Decided to drive back and get a new one.
I had high hopes for this place but I'm learning to never order over the phone, and ALWAYS check your food before you leave, even if it looks like you're a rude a** customer, still check.

Great carne asada tacos. Rice was really good. Small sized place but there's tables inside. Lady working there was nice. Red sauce had a slight sweetness to it but still spicy and good, green sauce was good. Overall good taco spot

This place is a pretty solid Mexican food place and I would come back. I have just a few things to say about it.

First, I personally did not enjoy the Pescado(Fish) burrito. I chose it because the only meat I eat is fish, but in the future I would consider shrimp tacos or a bean and cheese burrito as opposed to the fish burrito.

A lot of people consider this one of the best if not the best places to get tacos in the general vicinity of UCR, and it's definitely a destination. The restaurant has a good feel to it, and you can see the entire kitchen. There is some seating but if you're in a large group you should generally only be looking for pickup. It's tasty in any case.

  • *****

They have the best buche in Riverside. I used to go all the way to king taco in Fontana before I found this place. If you're looking for some decent tacos, give this place a try.

  • *****

The food is decent the price is okay. I would recommend it. The nachos of asada is good portion and has a good amount of meat.

  • *****

Just picked up my breakfast burrito (chorizo)
Delicious! This place never let's me down. Really good food, great customer service, and reasonable prices.

tacos are the best around! great service! meat is well seasoned and tender! yes, it is in a lil shoppin center caddy corner to little caeser's. they also have mexican coke! which i love, its made with cane sugar, so its sweeter!

  • *****

Really good food. Low prices, food comes out quick. It's not really flashy or crowded, but that kinda adds to its charm in a way.

their carne asada tacos are pretty bomb!!

I found Rico's Tacos randomly leaving Rite Aid one night, and had been looking for the best lengua taco in the UCR area. I've been to pretty much every mexican taqueria in the UCR area, and when I had my first lengua taco from Rico's I knew my search was over. Since then I've been a regular customer here.

Why are Rico's tacos so good? Well first for about 0.50$ extra per taco you can get tortillas "al mano" which means hand made. While usually the idea of "hand made" is something for snooty food purists and offer little substantial flavor differences, when it comes to tortillas it make a huge difference. Just a little carmalized from the griddle, and the texture of a warm flour tortialla, but the delicious flavor of a corn, these really make the taco.

On top of this is the no-nonsense serving style. You get a taco with some relatively spicy salsa a little cilantro and a dash of onion. There's no need for a 10 foot long salsa bar with these babies, they have all the flavor you need packed in.

The meat is flavorfull, and not fatty. The lengua is tender and perfect chunks lightly seared on the griddle, not the stewed or steamed variety you'll find at other nearby locations. The carne asada is excellent quality with not a chunk of grissle yet to be found since I've been a regular. Chicken is great which is sometimes the failing of many of these places, my girlfriend loves the slow stewed pierna(roast leg of pork).

They also have really good sopes(deep fried corn patties with meat veggies, avocado, and queso fresco) and great torta sandwiches. In summary, if you're looking for a two taco plate with some worthless beans and overcooked rice, please go to Jilbertos. If your looking for some great no-nonsense tacos like someone's mexican mom would prepare, then please come to Rico's!

    Why 5 stars?

    5 words......

    Best Torta I've Ever Had.

Yup, Rico's Tacos makes the best torta i've ever had. I get the the Birria Torta. Love it.

It's hard finding a really good Mexican food joint in this area. And this is one of the best. The meat taste so good and prices are reasonable. Buche tacos are good. Carne asada burritos are good too.

  • *****

This is one of those places where if I'm craving authentic Mexican food I come to. I tend to always order the Carne asada torta and it might be the best torta I've ever had. The tacos are pretty good and the tortillas are hand made, but they are a little pricey for the size.

Burritos are pretty good and better than most places and I recommend the abodaba meat, but the chicken is also sometimes dry, but overall a great meal and great mexican food if your trying to look outside Taco bell and Del Taco.

  • *****

Good food, bad location as in SCARY! Don't go alone after dark and get it to go, but the tacos are GREAT.

When I lived in Riverside, I ate at Rico's at least 1 or 2 times per week. The adobada tacos were so good, I'd order a dozen and stick them in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave for about 20 seconds and VOILA! taco heaven at my fingertips for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They serve their tacos with cilantro, raw diced onion and the optional hot salsa and spicy carrots. I tried the burritos a few times - they were good but I always went back for the tacos.

Service was hit or miss. Some of the people working there were super friendly and others seemed annoyed that I wanted to give them money in exchange for food. They were pretty quick getting the food out, usually about a 5 minute wait unless I ordered in bulk.

The restaurant was clean to the point of sterile. By that I mean, I didn't enjoy eating there because it felt like a hospital cafeteria... white walls, white floor, no decor. The plus side is you could probably eat off the floors. It's immaculate. I'm not going to complain for $1.75/epic taco, but I almost always took my tacos to go.

  • *****

OK. The BEST Burrito/taco place we've been to in 1.5 years in Riverside. Hands down. Fresh tortillas, well made items, packed like professionals... good service. highly recommended,

I usually eat at Hot Chicks Rice or Rice Box because I almost always prefer Asian food over American or Mexican food. Well, Ricos Tacos has gone and changed that.

After reading Robert B's review, regular tacos were not an option. It was tacos tortillas al mano ALL THE WAY. There was no pork that day so I got an asada and chicken taco. Service was great, the food was great, and cheaper than Hot Chicks and Rice Box, what is there to complain about?! Nothing, absolutely nothing to gripe about. 5 stars.

Favorite Mexican restaurant near UCR... By far! Great service, great food!

  • *****

This place is great! I only had the tacos. I tried the Asada, Carnitas, and Buche. They were all really good but buche will always be my personal favorite, when made correctly. I've tried many other taco places in Riverside and let me tell you the tacos out here aren't the greatest. This place is definitely worth trying.

  • *****

Really good authentic food at fair prices! I love going on my lunch break, or even after work. The chile relleno are delicious I don't like my chile spicy so theirs is perfect. The sope plate comes with three small sopes l, they're packed generously so the three really fill me up. I like getting them with different kinds of meat they are my favorite!

  • *****

Mexican food is by far my favorite type of food and ricos is very good. My one complaint is that every once in awhile on the carne asada tacos or sopes you will get a fatty piece of meat. Not my favorite thing. But I love their sopes regardless. The beans and rice here are perfect and it's definitely one of my favorite things!

  • *****

We had never noticed this place and decided to give it a try. We loved everything we ordered. We had Asada and chicken tacos and an Asada burrito. The Asada meat is not particularly spicy but is good quality and has a peppery flavor. The chicken is really good. The rice is tasty and the beans, though quite soupy, were yummy. And the veggies were flavorful and a nice touch. The atmosphere is so-so, so I would recommend carefully protecting the beans and finding a nice outside place to eat.

Update: ever since discovering Ricos Tacos, the frequency of our visits has increased. My wife has fallen in food-love with the Enfrijoladas - tortillas dipped in beans, then rolled and covered with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa and cheese. Delicious!!! I continue to swear that the chicken served here is the best tasting bird in Riverside. If you haven't tried this place yet, what are you waiting for? Jump, Sparky!

Tortas are great. I usually get adobada. Salsas are good. Big quesadillas.

Good customer service . Very friendly guy . The drinks were good and the food was good too . I have tasted very different types of Mexican food and I have to agree this restaurants is one of the best kind . It's hidden in the back but it's worth to find . Recommend coming to eat here and the prices are good .

I love the chicken burritos here lots of flavor and very good. Always catch em while the chicken is on the grill lol. I highly recommend this place

I have to be honest: choosing between a four and five stars for Rico's is difficult. But when you consider what Rico's gives you relative to the crap just east of it (i.e. Los Jilberto's and Santana's), I am happy to err on the side of a five.

Rico's is what you would expect were you to eat Mexican food at a friend's house (or even your mom's house), if your friend's mom was an outstanding cook. The beans are made properly with lard, the tortillas made from scratch, everything is flavorful and thoughtful. Rico's has even expanded its menu so that it could be on par with its weak competitors on University. In fact, I would challenge anyone to get any dish from those two places and try the same dish at Rico's. I can guarantee that Rico's is better, fresher, more flavorful, not from a can, not loaded with salt, not served to you by people with attitude and who try to overcharge you...uh, you get my point.

If you are going down University for Mexican food, go to Rico's. Yeah, it is not open as late as Los Jilberto's or Santana's but face it: those two places suck. Get going early and eat at Rico's.

The food was amazing!! Best Mexican food in town and I have tried many. It taste authentic. Will definitely be going back!!

This location is slightly hidden, but once you find it you'll never forget it's there. Walking in you can smell the Carne Asada, the aroma of fresh limes being cut. It's amazing. The food itself is to die for! Fries made fresh for their Carne Asada Fries, fresh cilantro and other herbs for the tacos. So why 4 stars? The seating area is limited to 2 4 seater tables and 4 2 seaters. And the staff can be a bit rude but I stand by my statement, Food TO DIE For!

So. I went on taco Tuesday and I was very much looking forward to this place. I was so disappointed.
I don't even really remember the food I was too distracted by how cold it was.
The tables were noticeably dirty. I get it, it's a restaurant it's not gonna be clean 100% of the time. It wasn't just one table, it was a few. The place was empty so I found it to be odd.
Anyways, I wasn't wowed.. don't see myself going back.

  • *****

The food is always fresh and the juices are as well, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody.

  • *****

Only came in for taco Tuesday but they are pretty good. They have small tacos but they have a lot of meat in them which makes them filling. The meat is on the dry side but can be fixed with adding salsa. Overall a pretty good option for taco Tuesday.

The place is very clean . About 10 minutes from my office, but worth well the drive here . They have a great Carne Asada Fry plate & the Tacos are to die for. This is my favorite place to get tacos when I feel super hungry and Jack in the Box nor subway can do it for me !

This place is amazing! Been coming here for awhile and we have never been disappointed. Food is delicious and the price is good! I recommend this place to anyone looking for good real Mexican food!

I can't hide my excitement for these tacos so I though if share my experience. First of all my mom was visiting from Las Vegas and was craving authentic tacos de lengua. For anyone who doesn't know what that is, well it's tongue. We walk in to what is a very small restaurant with a big character. Right away we are greeted by lovely woman with glasses who was just sweet as can be. We order 6 tacos de lengua and a burrito to go for my fianc who was at home. The food came out quickly and she even offering to make the burrito as we were finishing So it didn't get cold!! Such a thoughtful gesture. The tacos were deliciously tender and the green salsa made perfectly to my tolerance. We ordered 4 more tacos because they were some of the best I've had in riverside. This place is literally a hidden gem, it's in the shopping center by wing stop and little caesars tucked away in the very corner. I've lived in downtown for 6 years and this was my first time eating here. Shame on me! I plan to come back very soon and can't wait to spread the word! Gracias!!

I attend the UEI College adjacent to this taco shop and I have always seen the traffic in and out of this place. After months I finally went and I loved this place. Will go again today and tomorrow, yummy!

I have come to this place at least once a month for a while now. I have had tacos, quesadillas, tortas and have not been disappointed.

I came to today for lunch (Wednesday at around 1pm) I ordered the 2 taco meal that comes with rice and beans. The buche and alpastor tacos were really good. The rise had a good taste too. Beans were not my favorite but were still good. Overall my experience was really good. Only reason they got 4 stars instead of 5 was because the girl taking the orders in the front took a while with the two college kids in front of me. The 3 were pretty much flirting with each other and just having a random conversation and not anything to do with their order. When people are in line and during the lunch hour, probably not the best time to keep us waiting. Other than that, service was good and the meal was too.

  • *****

The staff was very nice and helpful. Great food and generous portions! Worth it.

  • *****

Really good food but the al pastor wasnt... al pastor

  • *****

The woman working the counter was very helpful and kind. Our orders were ready in a reasonable amount of time. This is a good "hole in the wall" place to come if you're looking for good Mexican food in the area. *Sad face* cause they don't serve enchiladas but *Happy face* cause they do serve tamales which I don't normally see available around this time of year at eateries. If you decide to eat here don't forget to ask for green sauce on the side. It's spicy and delicious.
